Final few words I promise, when you arrive at the tunnels in Chu Chi in your car driven by a local try and get a guide that looks around 60 or so, chances are he fought in the war and will have some pretty amazing combat stories!
The motor bike ride around the city should only cost $5!
If you're going to Cambodia they will try and sell you local currency, don't touch it, it's crap, you would need a suitcase full to buy a beer, it was all done in dollars 4 years ago and I can't imagine it has changed, Vietnam is different, they had a decent currency 4 years ago, the Dong, accepted every where, some places seemed to only want Dong, it's all Southern vs Northern politics over there, I stayed with the local currency, didn't seem right putting dollars on the counter given the history in the country, also didn't want to be mistaken for a yank!

You can get a bus from Pnomh Penh into Vietnam, it only costs a few dollars, it takes a while and goes over some rough terrain but there is some impressive views!
I didn't spend an awful lot of time in Vietnam unfortunately, only saw Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon, depending on your politics) and Chu Chi, the latter is a must, one of the most impressive things you will see on the whole trip is the tunnels in Chu Chi, DO NOT book the tunnels visit in a travel agent, you will be on a coach with 20/30 yanks and you will only get 1 tour guide on arrival, get a local to drive you there in his car, they hang around all the bars looking for work, they are sound and will wait for you and drop you back, me and my mate paid 20 dollars and the guy was thrilled, better to give it to a local with a family than some faceless company!
I recommend getting a local to bring you around the city on his motor bike and show you the sights, no shortage of them hanging the bars looking for work, traffic is pretty bad in Saigon and this certainly beats sitting in it, doesn't hurt to have a few brews inside you they're fairly crazy drivers!
Didn't get up north so can't help you there but Hanoi is supposed to be great and there is a few good beach resorts up the coast, pick up a travel guide for any regions you plan on visiting, they're fairly useful, although they'll probably tell you not to do half the stuff I told you to do!
Well good luck and enjoy, and no expensive jewellery on show and don't carry excess cash! I couldn't wait any longer for the girl in the hotel to open safety boxes she was taking forever told my mate I would mind his money, I put $300 in a zipped pocket and the fuckers got it, don't know where or when or at what stage of the night it happened but they got it, even closed the fuckin zip again! That was in Cambodia!

You have to go into Cambodia for at least 4/5 days, maybe even more. Start in Siem Reap in Northern Cambodia and take in Angkor Wot and Angkor Ton, there the ruins of the Buddhist Temples destroyed by the Khmer Rouge,2 days will be enough if you're on a time budget! From there get the river ferry down to Pnomh Penh, takes about 6 hours and you won't believe the river villages and how they live happily, very humbling! you have to see S21 (the processing prison for the killing fields) and then of course The Killing Fields themselves, both in the one day can be upsetting, be prepared to witness poverty like you've never seen before!
If you are interested in firing weapons, then its better in Cambodia
