Someone like you - Adele
Ellen Aim & The Attackers - Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young
From the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Streets Of Fire (1984)
OK so they arent a real band, and were really only formed for a movie, but the music they made for the movie was quite good, and this song was my fave from the soundtrack. The movie itself (Streets Of Fire) is one of the most underrated & undervalued movies of the 80's. But it is a classic, and has now reached cult status. If you get a chance to see it, then give it a look. Im guessing you might actually like it. It has a real comic book story feel to it.
"I've got a dream when the darkness is over we'll be lyin' in the rays of the sun
But it's only a dream and tonight is for real
You'll never know what it means but you'll know how it feels
It's gonna be over, before you know it's begun
It's all we really got tonight, stop your cryin' hold on tonight, before you know it it's gone tonight,
Tonight is what it means to be young"

Dire Straights - Romeo and Juliet
Lovely romantic song. Brilliant lyrics. This performance is great.

Beautiful choice, I love this song, maybe if you like that, you will adore this?
Dire Staits - Tunnel Of Love, if you can spare 8 minutes of your life you wont get back, you might just be rewared, if you have ever been drunk on love, and then left broken hearted, the Knopler solo that builds from all the way to the end will put things right. But if you have the time close your eyes and listen to the whole song.
Brilliant songs xxfor and lick another fav of mine would be

[b:869ff4f038]George Michael - Father Figure[/b:869ff4f038] From his debut solo album: Faith (1987) The song was released in 1988 as the third single from the album. Although the album from which this song comes from was more controversial for the 3rd track on the CD (I Want Your Sex Parts I & II), Father Figure has since been voted by fans as one of his best ever singles to be released, not only from the Faith album, but also against every subsequent album he has since released. And personally, its my favourite George Michael track ever. Just hope he performs it in November wink [b:869ff4f038]"That's all I wanted, something special, something sacred in your eyes, For just one moment, to be bold and naked at your side Sometimes I think that you'll never understand me, maybe this time is forever, say it can be I will be your father figure put your tiny hand in mine I will be your preacher teacher anything you have in mind I will be your father figure I have had enough of crime I will be the one who loves you till the end of time"[/b:869ff4f038] Heres a link to the video, a video I always really liked too Enjoy
Paul Simon - Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard great tune for a singsong in a pub lol
[b:0d46fc7e85]The Carpenters - Top Of The World[/b:0d46fc7e85] From the album: A Song For You (1973) Always loved this song since I was young. My mother always sang this as she did the cleaning around the house when I was a kid. But it means more to me as Ally & I would sing it as we drove around on our Maui leg of our Honeymoon in Hawaii. And just like xxfor's song above, its a great tune for a singalong. [b:0d46fc7e85]"Everything I want the world to be is now coming true especially for me And the reason is clear it's because you are here you're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation and the only explanation I can find Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around your love's put me at the top of the world"[/b:0d46fc7e85] Heres a link to the video Enjoy
The Eagles - Lying Eyes What a brilliant song, great band if they'd ever put all the shit behind them and get on with it. But ah well, they are what they are. No denying their songs are top drawer though.
As xx brought up great musicians that need to put their shit behind them, and seeing as this time last week I was watching this show in the O2: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb. Just a shame Dave Gilmour didn't show up in Dublin.
Ennio Morricone - Ecstasy of Gold ......Epic.

[b:a20c190cfa]Michael Buble - Home[/b:a20c190cfa] From the album: It's Time (1995) Just a brilliant song. Slow, meaningful and just the kinda song you need playing in the background when you're having a nice romantic dinner with a date/girlfriend/wife/partner. Perfect tempo, great lyrics, and Buble is just one of the best male vocalists out there today. Although many others have since covered this tune, nobody ever came close to capturing the spirit of the song like "The Bube" did. This song will be considered a classic in the decades to come. Just so sorry I never got to see him perform here sad [b:a20c190cfa]"And I feel just like I'm living someone else's life It's like I just stepped outside when everything was going right And I know just why you could not come along with me This was not your dream but you always believed in me"[/b:a20c190cfa] Heres a link to the video Enjoy
Deeply Dippy - Right Said Fred Love this song soooooo much - went to see these guys not so long ago in a gay club in Dublin - they were the business!!!!!
Sinead O'Connor & Shane MacGowan - Haunted
From the original motion picture soundtrack: Sid & Nancy (1995/96)
The song was originally released in 1986 by the Pogues (Without O'Connor), but this duet version is actually a lovely take on the original. I recently came across this version while looking for an alternative style song for a wedding video I was working on. Needless to say, the couple I was working for absolutely loved it and were so happy I included it on their DVD.
Yes I am a genius I know wink lol
"Do you remember that sunny day somewhere in London in the middle of nowhere?
Didn't have nothing to do that day, didn't want to do nothing anyway
You got a way of walking, you got a way of talking
And there's something about you
And now I know I never ever want to be without you"

Barry Manilow - Copacabana
From the album: Even Now (1978)
Yeah ok so Manilow is a bit of a glorified cabaret artist, but so what? He has released some great songs over the years, this being just one of them. Just a cool and catchy song for a lovely sunny day we are having today. Well we are having a glorious sunny day here in the hills, dont know about the rest of you dunno
"His name was Rico, he wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancing there
And when she finished, he called her over
But Rico went a bit to far, Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gunshot but just who shot who?"
Although there have been many mixes & remixes of this gem, the link below is in my opinion the best cut of the song. Im not sure but it may be the original mix.
Enjoy
Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine
[b:5eb6b38ed3]DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime[/b:5eb6b38ed3] From the album: Homebase (1991) Sticking with Tender's choice above for a summer song, heres my choice for the day. Another great song that reminds me of summers growing up in Dublin, having a few beers in the local park with a few of my mates, kicking a ball between us while keeping sketch for the Gardai (Well we were underage drinking in public) smile. The lyrics are just spot on, and are universal - no matter if you are from Ireland or The USA, the words of this song will bring you back to those glorious days where summers seemed to last much longer. [b:5eb6b38ed3]"School is out and its a sort of a buzz but back then I didn't really know what it was But now I see what have of this the way that people respond to summer madness The weather is hot and girls are dressing less and checking out the fellas to tell em who's best She turn around to see what you beeping at, it's like the summers a natural aphrodesiac With a pen and pad I compose this rhyme to hit you and get you equipped for the summer time"[/b:5eb6b38ed3] Heres a link to the video Enjoy
[b:9410ae2d70]Picture House - Sunburst[/b:9410ae2d70] From the album: Shinebox (1998) This is such a brilliant song from a very underrated Dublin band. This song was their only success, but I cant see why as this song is really really good. It was released in the summer of 1998, and always brings me back to that time when Ally & I started seeing each other that summer. To this day, I still hold this song up there as one of my favourites. Im sure you know it, and if you think you dont then take a look at the video  [b:9410ae2d70]"There's a sunburst whenever you're near me, there's a sunburst trying to break through And I'll wait hopefully near you hoping you are trying to get nearer to the sunburst, The one that I'm feeling, such a sunburst, trying to break through And I'll wait hopefully near you, hoping you're maybe feeling it too"[/b:9410ae2d70] Heres a link to the video Enjoy
[b:7f5c3029af]The Calling - Wherever You Will Go[/b:7f5c3029af] From the album: Camino Palmero (2001) Absolutely love this song from when I first heard it around 10 years ago. Give it a listen, I'm sure you will too. Another song I just cant stop myself singing along to when it comes on the radio or MTV. There are two different versions of the video, the song plays the same in both, its just two different shoots. The link at the bottom is for the one most usually played and more well known version. [b:7f5c3029af]"So lately, been wondering who will be there to take my place? When I'm gone you'll need love to light the shadows on your face If a great wave shall fall yeah fall upon us all Then between the sand and stone could you make it on your own? If I could, then I would, I'll go wherever you will go Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go"[/b:7f5c3029af] Heres a link to the video Enjoy
[b:01f4770e05]The Beastie Boys - Sabotage[/b:01f4770e05] From the album: Ill Communication (1994) This song is my fave Beastie Boys song. The video is absolutely fab. Its kind of a homage to the 70's cop shows like Streets of San Fransisco. It was directed by Spike Jonze, who also directed the Bjork - Oh So Quiet & Fatboy Slim - Praise you videos among many others. If you do watch the video, look out for the backhanded slap the cop gives the criminal at around the 2:33 minute mark then at 2:40 the cops throw him out of a moving car - its priceless smile [b:01f4770e05]"I can't stand it, I know you planned it I'ma set it straight, this Watergate I can't stand rocking when I'm in here cause your crystal ball ain't so crystal clear So while you sit back and wonder why I got this fucking thorn in my side Oh my God, it's a mirage I'm tellin' y'all, it's sabotage So, so, so, so listen up cause you can't say nothin You'll shut me down with a push of your button? But you, I'm out and I'm gone I'll tell you now, I keep it on and on"[/b:01f4770e05] Heres a link to the video Enjoy
