Hello all
Mods If this is in the wrong place please move it
Over the last few days i have received 2 phone calls from people pretending to be technical support. The following are the facts
1) Different company names were given
2) False number appears on Line recognition. Lots of zeros and last 3 numbers are 123
3) Accents of both callers were Indian. Once a Male and Once Female
4) They appear to be working off scripts, as follows.
They say that my computer has a number of virus and has been contacting their website. They ask if i am in front of the computer and if not to go to it now. They are insistent that i do so immediately.
At this point i pushed both to give more details about themselves. (i never use technical support and most certainly wouldnt use one that called me out of the blue)They continued to tell me to go to my computer. When i got more insistent on getting a contact number and where they were calling from, they both hung up.
Talking to a couple of relatives when they checked their received/missed calls list, they found that the false number was on the list.
The rest of the scam is they get you to go to a particular website to see if its working. There a file will be installed to your computer which will log your keystrokes and will send back the details to the scammers automaticly, or worse still give remote access to the scammers to your computer.
I need not say how damaging that could be if they get any personal details you may have on your computer such as credit card details or bank login details.
Hope this helps prevent any of you or your families getting caught out OR if you have done as they requested then be sure to
1) Contact your Bank and credit card companies to get new Passwords by phone. Do NOT do it online. They will get your new details.
2) Update your anti virus and run it.
3) Check fire Walls to see if any new additions have been made to the permissions.
4) Tell your friends to be on the alert for the Bastards!!!
