Hi Along here. We've been getting calls from Indian people from "online PC doctor" claiming that there is a problem with our PC. The number has been listed as out of area. Theres a long thread on the subject on "Another"web site.
No support company cold calls to tell you theres a problem with your pc.
Do not give them credit card details or allow access to your pc.
Do not visit any site they mention as it downloads some nasty malware to your pc.
Best just to tell them you dont have a PC as they can be quite persistant
Ok, these people get you to download software that allows them to remotely hack into your pc and retrieve any data that isnt encrypted. All of our files that are private (Naughty Pics & Vids etc) are encrypted. We wouldnt just leave them open to hacking. Could you imagine your private pics ending up online?
Just hang up on these callers. Follow their instructions at your peril.
By the way its not your naughty pics they are after, its your financial info.
yep they have been doing the rounds all right, they were even talked bout on , dare i say it "joe duffy" er not that i listen to him you understand, em, er , i just er heard about it from someone else.:-o
I got at least 5 different phone calls from them , and as yummy says they are very persistent, they started by telling me they are ringing in regards with a problem with my computer,next question was how many computers did I have in the house, they then mention the data protection act,(which if your ringing from a legitimate company has to be raised in a phone call), a way of making their phone call sound legit i suppose,, with me they never got any further than that. On the 5th call I told them it was harrasment, to stop contacting me or i would be calling the guards on thing just hang up if ya hear "im ringing in regards to a problem with your computer"

The scammers then get people to download a file from a website and gain access to their computers where they can see personal details including financial information. In some cases they also ask for credit card details. “We’re seeing growing numbers of reports of this particular scam and we are warning people to be very careful," said John Shine of the National Consumer Agency (NCA). "Microsoft or any legitimate technology company would never cold call customers to tell them there is a problem with their computer. "The scammers also using different company names so if you get a call from anyone claiming that there is a problem with your computer – regardless of what company they tell you there are from – hang up immediately and report it to the NCA
Thanks alicolwic and Slightly. Just trying to get the word out to people. There have been a lot of people stung by this scam.
Although in slightlys case she probably gets a lot of persistent callers
Yes yet again our indian buddies are still at this trying to get you onto your pc , on the pretence that their is something wrong with your pc. I can only advise do nothing they ask of you. And just keep requesting that they contact you at a more convient time......like never again
