Men in 50s 'more satisfied with sex' - as I get nearer to that age this I suppose is good news ...
and the news ain't bad for other age groups either.
Men in their 50s are more satisfied with their sex
lives than men in their 30s and 40s, the results
of a new survey indicate.
Almost 1,200 Norwegian men aged between 20 and 79
were surveyed on various aspects of their sex
life, including sex drive, erections and
ejaculation. All of the participants were asked to
rate their satisfaction with these particular
areas on a scale of one to four, with four
representing good sexual functioning and no
problems.
The study found that increasing age is associated
with a decline in sex drive and ability. However
there did not appear to be as strong a link
between age and overall sexual satisfaction.
While men in their 20s had the highest overall
satisfaction level ( ) with their sex lives,
they were followed by men in their 50s ( ).
This score was higher than the score for both men
in their 40s ( ) and men in their 30s ( ).
However after the age of 59, overall satisfaction
fell significantly, to for men in their 60s
and for those in their 70s.
The survey revealed that when it came to sexual
functioning, scores moved steadily downwards as
the respondents got older. For example, men in
their 20s rated their sex drive as , compared
to men in their 70s who rated their drive as Meanwhile men in their 20s rated their
satisfaction with erections at , compared to in men in their 50s and 1.6 in men in their
60s.
Almost nine in 10 of those surveyed were married
or in a sexual relationship and 57% had been
sexually active in the last 30 days.
"The results showed a very strong correlation
between men getting older and reduced sexual
functioning, but not between age and sexual
satisfaction. This shows that although men
experience more problems and less sexual function
as they get older, it doesn't necessarily follow
that they are less satisfied with their sex lives
as a result", the researchers said.
Details of the survey are published in BJU
(British Journal of Urology) International.
