Heard this on the radio this morning ... at a recent Debs dance condoms were place on the side plates of the young couples attending the Debs.
The Debs was of a girls school, the radio presenter was surprised by his own initial narrow views on the "condom on a plate". It raised the question was it a joke, practical gift or a considerate thought.
As the father of girls I admit my initial thought was "oh...!" but on thinking about it, I have to admit it is perhaps a practicle sensible reminder ... after all much drink will probably be consumer.
unfortunately I didn't get to hear the end of the radio program or the text messages from the other listeners.
But I suppose the real question is, does it encourage or condone sex among teens?
As a parent would you keep a supply of condoms handy at home so your son or daughter could put some in their pocket/bag on the way out for the evening?
If you are prepared to pay for your daughters "anti cervical cancer injection" or her supply or contraceptive pills, then why not also supply them with condoms?
Are you a good if you do or a bad one if you don't?
Alan,
That's the CORK debs tonight!
The normal from the media too boost ratings!
Padd's
Personaly i dont want my daughters coming in telling me they are up the pole or my son telling me he got a girl pregnant so if it came down to it yes i would give them condoms and will have no problem putting my daughters on the pill. I got pregnant as a teen and wouldnt wish it on anyone. I dont think supplying condoms is encouranging teen sex, if they are going to have sex they will so why not make sure they are safe, rather them use them then catch something.

100% agree with ravenfire , can add no more to what she has posted
Yip Teenage sex over Teenage Pregnancy.
It's fantastic how far Ireland has come (Pardon the pun!) over the last few years.
Dunno is givin' it to them on a plate a bt too literal though?!?! But sure I suppose if they had to go ask some-one for them, or go to another room to get them, - they mightn't bother ....
I agree totally with ravenfire and must also add that the young adults at these debs are normally above the age of consent so having the condoms handed to them on a plate is just a tough reminder for these young adults of what may go wrong without having condoms to hand.

good point well made raven..
