anyone else on here love books, what have you read lately and what would you recommend. Am reading Kate Atkinsons "when will there be good news" and it is a great read, just finished her "one good turn" Also loved John Banville writing as Benjamin Black, 2 great stories. big fan of John Connolly, have read all his novels and short stories and really liked his "Book of lost things"
Ah jaysus alan....our house used to be like a lending library....friends would always be round borrowing books, cds, and dvds....at the moment I'm rereading my Iain Banks collection before I tackle his latest one.....among my many personal favourites authors are Luke Rinehart (The Dice Man), Umberto Eco (The Name Of The Rose, Foucoult's Pendulum), Jim Crace, Gabriel Garcia Marquez (100 Years Of Solitude, Love In A Time Of Cholera), Terry Pratchett (so sad the man has Altzheimers - I watched some of the documentary about him trying to find a way to arrest the progress of the disease, was in tears for most of it).....I could go on and on, but I wont lol.
Been a Bookworm all my life - wore my eyes out reading under the covers with a torch after lights out and worn glasses since I was 7 because of it!
:haha:
Mainly into Tolkien/Piers Anthony/Stephen Donaldson - all fantasy and Sci-fiction
But own almost every one of the 80 Catherine Cooksons and about 40 packing cases full of other books.
What isn't about genealogy is usually history based reference books - love atlases and anything old.
Thomas Covenant - what a fucked-up dude, what a great story, eh Marie???
could we now have a book swap meet ... I need to make space in my house ... help!!!
If a swap meet is taking place, please count me in.. A online book club would be another great idea Alan, we could decide on a book each month. My home is falling down with books..lol.. I just can't give them away.. As a young child my parents simply could not afford to buy books, I vowed I would fill my home with them for my children even if they showed no interest, thank fully it paid off, eldest two adore reading... Reading Women's writing of the victorian period at the moment ..

:haha:
Try Terry Pratchetts discworld series for a laugh. For the more serious among ye Try Neville Shutes "On the Beach". Better still pop in leave book on bedside table and will read it to you post coitus Mulderxxx
ah feck we can hardly it the books we have now in the house - had to bring our bookcases over from england so we could get them out of boxes after 2 years ffs! Having said that, we are moving to a bigger house next week, so we might have a bit more room to expand our collection gain...woohoo!!!
God I feel so common in this company, I am reading both Gerry Ryan and Russell Brands AutoBiogs:doh:......slinks away to the corner and puts on dunce hat.bolt
Ah T mate....at least you are reading something, which says more about you than what you read mate. I'm struggling through Sidney Poitiers memoirs at the moment meself - although I have infinite respect for the man it's hard going. On the subject of biographies, my opinion is that everyones life has something worth writing about - small but facinating dramas in everyday life that can inform and amuse us...unfortunately most people aren't articulate enough to pass them on, or perceptive enough to recognise the parts of their lives that others might find interesting. Inspired the Boo, I have been thinking about putting together a collection of stories based on peoples exploits here, and their reasons for taking part in the lifestyle - I'm damn sure there would be a market for it. If anyone is interested in sharing their swinging stories with me to this end I'd be happy to hear from them...if I can get enough material I'll go for it! It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that the identities of everyone who contributed (and the people they talk about) would be protected to the utmost. I would be happy to meet people and record their stories for later adaptation, so no one would need to write things down - a tedious chore for a lot of people. I know that there are a million and one stories to be heard from the folks on here....lets get them out there and maybe dispel few of the myths about us!!! Andy
