Concern over abuse of Women through technology
Women's Aid has said there is an increase in the number of women being abused through technology.
The group, which provides support to victims of domestic violence, says more women than ever are being abused, controlled and stalked using technology.
There were almost 15,000 abuse incidents recorded in 2009 according to the agency, with 335 rapes within relationships being reported to Women's Aid.
Monitoring of text messages, recording of phone calls, secret video cameras recording intimate encounters and demanded access to private email and social network accounts are just some ways in which women have had their rights violated by their partners.
Last year there was a 16% increase in first time callers to the service. Women's Aid is urging women being abused to break the cycle and seek help.

How does this concern members usage on site?
There are numerous posts in the forums about abusive remarks to female cammers, Abusive remarks through whispers, Stalking via text & email messaging.
Being able to see womens cameras, chat to them in chatrooms or having an email or text number is a privilage, it is not an open invitation to bombard them with in-appropriate explicit texts/mails/pictures or comments.
Remember in the work place this type of behaviour would be Sexual Harassment & you would loose your job
In the domestic situation it would be ABUSE and you could end up with a criminal record
If Abuse & Harassment is unacceptable in the real world it is definitely un-acceptable in the virtual world of the internet.
So well put Alan …. Sexual Harassment is something most women and I do agree that men also have to deal with at one stage or another in life , Put becoming a member here or on any internet site should not give gentlemen or women for that matter the right to think that just because we are in a internet environment that uncouth and loutish behaviour dose not have an effect on other’s . It is important to remember that our personal behaviour , be it on the internet or in the word out side dose have an effect on others and will always follow you in life so please remember its nice to be nice and even nicer to have the decency to treat everyone with common respect and courtesy … "If every word I said could make you laugh, I'd talk forever...” smile)
It is not only women who are abused on this site and through other means of technology, as it is not only women who suffer domestic violence. It happens to men too, men CAN be , men CAN be abused by their partners, men CAN be victims of sexual harassment. I mean no disrespect to women as i was in an abusive relationship but i get tired of hearing how women are such victims when it happens to men too.
Raven, I think you missed the point of the thread & that was the recent report on abuse of women via technology. I was trying to bring peoples attention to what is an important and indepth report ... & yes men can & are abused also but it is less common. Many of the post on here are about lack of respect for women on cam, abusive mails, abusive whispers etc ...many women recieve abusive mails, texts & offensive jokes on a daily basis, unfortunately most of the culpits are Men.

I read the previous posters reply and was wondering why they chose to ignore the fact you were speaking solely on the abuse of women using technology..
Hardly relevant to introduce the abuse of men within the context of the original post...
However each to their own I guess
dunno

I did not miss the point of the O.P. Yes there are many posts on abuse of females members but we all know men are abused on this site also and it is very unfair to just point out about female members, as i would hazard a guess that the majority of members on site are males.
I did focus on abuse of men as it was posted about abuse and i do feel it is important to point out it is not only a female issue but a male issue too and as is well known men do not report it as much as women but it does happen and should not be ignored or brushed under the carpet.
While pointing out about abuse of women on or off site is great, it is also very important to point out men are abused on this site too.

I disagree virgo, while pointing out about the abuse of women on or off site is very valid it would be wrong for someone not to point out men are abused too both on and off site.
