The sense of humour bone :P
Ginger,
that is a very fair and understandable response to equally sincere critisms.
I've no doubt about the effort and frustrations in organising the event.
What a shame you lost the original venue..
a entire hotel would have been amazing.
The knock-on rearranging was the best possible in the circumstances.
..and you did manage a very welcoming smile....
Many thanks
Good afternoon
There seems to be some assumptions being made about the M&G.
Firstly the bar was booked out for us and us alone, there were some left over public from the dinner time from the bar, which was out of my control as they couldn't be thrown out just because we arrived. These people we gone early in the evening and then the whole bar was ours.
To the people that actually paid me thank you, to those that didn't even acknowledge me on the night never mind pay me thanks for coming and I hope you had a good time. I'm sorry that some of you feel that the 10 euro cc was too high but there was no way for me to know if I would get 10 50 a 100 or no one to come to this event.
The location was chosen on its proximity to the original venue that couldn't be used as it was outted before the event and management felt it was too risky to their reputation as a professional establishment if the media got hold of it.
As it was someone tried to sabotage the night early Saturday evening by posting on the bars facebook page about the event and it almost didn't happen at all. Only my negotiating skills and 100% guarantee to the manager that there wouldn't be any fall back on the bar or he was cancelling my booking. He was happy enough that it was a swing event but didn't want media or social network coverage of the event as we all know swinging is still very in Ireland.
I am sorry for the behaviour of the bar man that was abusive, but I am not his boss (if only I was) and can't help if someone is a grumpy aul yoke.
When booking this event I requested finger food to be laid on for people, the cost involved was too high and I couldn't take the financial risk of having to pay for food for an event that might not bring in the revenue required to cover it. Any money that I 'made' will be used to take a risk for any new events.
I spent 3 months working on this event, answering mails daily, ensuring that everyone that was invited was verified and real and not journalists trying to get in to do a big media coverage on us. It is not a small task and I took it on as I love the social aspect of the swing lifestyle. The night was a social night for like minded people to meet and greet. I spent most of the night on the door ensuring that everyone was ok and happy enough.
With these events it is very hard to gauge who will actually show up.
There are the people that torment ya for an invite only to no show or cancel at the last minute, dreamers and people that like the idea of going but are never going to show, all have to be taken in to account. I sent out about 300 invites knowing I wouldn't get even half of that. As it turns out I got more than I anticipated and was delighted with the turn out. It was great to see both of the sites blending together and I didn't think there was a divide, maybe it's just because I know a lot from both sites that I couldn't see any division. Thanks to all of you that have sent me mails wishing me good luck before the event and thanking me for organising the event I really appreciate your kind words.
Happy swinging, Ginger
